A Comprehensive History
Before deciding what we need to do next, we will take a comprehensive dental history. If you come to us from another office, we will look at your dental records to see what has been done so far. We want to have a complete understanding of how you have gotten to this point.
At the same time, we want to talk to you to figure out how we can help you. We want to learn more about the symptoms you have experienced, what it is like when you try to eat something, and whether your oral health issues impact your ability to speak. We may also ask some additional questions to clarify various aspects of your dental history.
A Detailed Physical Exam
Once we are done taking a history, we will also do a detailed physical exam. We want to look at the inside of your mouth to figure out exactly what the problem might be. We will examine each surface of your teeth to ensure we understand what is happening. We will also look at the alignment of your teeth and your bite to identify any potential issues.
As a part of the exam, we may also take some dental images. We want to get a closer look at what is happening underneath the surface so we don’t miss anything.
A Discussion About the Treatment Process
Once we are done, we will review the findings with you. We will provide you with a diagnosis, or a list of possible diagnoses. We will also explain what has to be done next to correct any oral health issues that you might have.
For example, we may talk about braces and Invisalign. Or, we may talk about airway management. We may also discuss other procedures to help you correct potential bite issues. We view our patients as members of our team and want to give you the information you need to make appropriate decisions regarding your oral health.
