Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays, also called radiographs, are used to take images of your teeth. At Zitterkopf | Gaworski Orthodontics & Falcon Orthodontics, our highly trained team is here to help you in Colorado Springs and Falcon. We need to ensure that we collect all the necessary information before moving forward with a treatment plan.

How Do Digital X-Rays Work?
Digital X-rays create an image based on density. A small, invisible, painless beam passes through your mouth when we take an image. Objects that are dense, such as bone, will show up white. Then, objects that are light, such as air, will show up black. The difference in density creates an image, allowing us to look at everything that is happening underneath the surface.
What Are the Types of Digital X-Rays?
There are several types of digital X-rays that we might take. Our goal is to get a complete image before we decide on the treatment plan. A few examples of X-rays include:
- Panoramic: This is an image that will show the entire mouth in a single frame, allowing us to see your upper jaw, lower jaw, and soft tissue at the same time.
- Bitewing: If we ask you to bite down on a piece of plastic, we are taking a bitewing image, which will allow us to check in between the teeth for cavities and examine the alignment of your bite.
- Occlusal: We may also take an occlusal X-ray, which happens when the jaw is closed. We want to make sure your teeth line up accurately.
- Periapical: If we need to see the teeth from crown to root, we will take this type of image.
We will work with you closely to make sure we have all the necessary information to take a solid image.
How Do They Help Me?
There are countless ways that a digital X-ray can help you. We can do these X-rays to make sure children’s teeth are developing appropriately. We can also use this X-ray to look at issues underneath the surface of your gums, ensuring we do not miss anything. We may also use this X-ray to check the alignment of your teeth, which can help us figure out if you need braces or not.
